Requirements and photoWhat we check
The things a studio photographer watches, measured
Every photo is measured against ICP's rules and the ICAO portrait standard. You see each result by name, with what to change if something fails.
Framing
- Head height 70–80 % of the photo
- Eyes inside the 30–50 % band
- Face centred, shoulders visible
- Exact size and 600 dpi
Face and eyes
- Square to the camera, not tilted
- Looking straight into the lens
- Eyes open, neutral face, mouth closed
- Glasses: no glare, no tint, nothing over the eyes
Light
- Even light on both cheeks
- No shadows on the face
- No flash reflections or red eye
- Sharp, correctly exposed
Background
- Plain white, the ICP requirement
- Clean outline, hair included
- No objects, hands or other people
- JPEG under 2 MB for the ICP portal

A photographer in your browser
Most rejected photos fail on small things: a tilted head, a shadow on one cheek, standing too far away. IDPhotos.ai watches for them live and tells you what to change, in Arabic or English, before you press the shutter.
Try the guided camera- Distance and centring, matched to your document's head-size rule
- Head tilt and turn, so your face is square to the camera
- Eyes open, neutral expression, mouth closed
- Even light on both sides of your face
- Automatic capture when everything is right

What size is a UAE passport or Emirates ID photo?
ICP uses 35 × 45 mm with a white background for the passport, Emirates ID and family book. Visit visas, residence permits, other entry permits and the newborn leave permit use 40 × 60 mm. Choose the document and IDPhotos.ai uses the right size.
Can I wear a headscarf, ghutra or hijab?
Yes, head coverings worn for religious reasons are accepted, as long as your face is visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both edges of your face can be seen.
Can I wear glasses?
Official sources differ: the brochure allows clear, non-glare glasses, while the FAQ mentions medical glasses only. Remove them if you can. If you keep them on, IDPhotos.ai checks for tinted lenses, frames over the eyes and reflections.
Can I smile?
No. Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed. IDPhotos.ai measures this and asks for a retake if your smile shows.
Does the photo have to be recent?
Yes — taken within the last six months. For a passport renewal it must also differ from the photo in your current passport.
