How IDPhotos.ai works
From your phone camera to a photo that meets ICP's published rules, in four stages.
1. Capture with live guidance
The guided camera runs a face-tracking model inside your browser. Several times a second it measures your distance, centring, head tilt and turn, eyes, expression and the light on each side of your face, and tells you what to change. When everything is within the rules for your document, it captures automatically.
The live video never leaves your device. Only the photo you choose to use is uploaded.
2. Automatic processing
On our servers, the photo is straightened so your eyes are level, then cropped so your head height and eye line fall inside the document's limits. The background is replaced with plain white, and the result is saved at the exact pixel size and print resolution for your document, as an sRGB JPEG within the ICP portal's 2 MB limit.
3. Rule checks
Over 20 checks measure the finished photo: one face only, resolution, head size, eye position, centring, tilt and turn, eyes open, mouth closed, neutral expression, glasses, glare, tinted lenses, head covering, face fully visible, hands, lighting balance, exposure, colour, sharpness, red eye and background. Each check shows the measured value, the rule it applies and where that rule comes from.
4. AI expert review
Some rules are hard to measure with formulas — whether a head covering is religious, whether frames sit over the eyes, whether the background edge looks natural. When enabled, a vision-language model reviews the finished photo against the same UAE rules and returns structured findings with its confidence. Confident problems block the photo; uncertain ones are shown as notes.
